The opportunity 

Are you a Casualty Trading Underwriter looking to take that next step in your underwriting career? If so, we would love to hear from you! This is an excellent opportunity to join our Commercial Casualty team, where you’ll work on a varied portfolio and gain exposure to a broad range of risks, clients and broker relationships. The role is well suited to someone who already has some underwriting experience and is keen to build on that foundation within a supportive, collaborative environment.

You’ll be given the opportunity to further develop your technical underwriting skills, commercial judgement and market awareness, supported by experienced colleagues who are invested in your progression. While previous experience in Casualty underwriting is beneficial, we’re primarily looking for someone with curiosity, strong communication skills and the appetite to learn. If you’re motivated to grow, enjoy working with brokers, and want to develop into a confident, well-rounded underwriter, this role offers clear scope to do exactly that.

What will you be doing?  

• Underwrite primary and excess of loss Commercial Casualty business, including Employers’ Liability and Public / Products Liability, in line with underwriting authority, appetite and pricing guidelines.
• Support the underwriting and management of global programmes and non‑conventional structures for commercial customers, gaining exposure to more complex placements as your experience develops.
• Assess risks, analyse underwriting information and exercise sound judgement to deliver profitable underwriting decisions, with support and guidance from senior underwriters where required.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with external brokers and customers, contributing to the promotion and delivery of Zurich’s casualty proposition in the market.
• Actively participate in broker meetings, presentations and market interactions to support new business opportunities and retain existing accounts.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across underwriting, claims, pricing and wider business teams to support initiatives, projects and agreed deliverables.
• Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration and negotiation skills when working with brokers, customers and internal colleagues.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the team through sharing insight, supporting process improvements and embedding underwriting best practice.

What are we looking for? 

• Experience as a Casualty Underwriter with exposure to both new business and renewals.
• Ideally some experience of international programmes, though this is not essential.
• Strong ability to collaborate, negotiate and communicate effectively with brokers, customers and internal stakeholders.
• A team‑focused mindset, contributing to the achievement of both company and Casualty team financial plans and performance metrics.
• A commitment to delivering high standards of customer service, ensuring key metrics such as contract certainty are consistently met.
• A proactive approach to working inclusively and promoting diversity through everyday actions and behaviours.
• Adherence to all company governance, risk and compliance standards at all times.
• Flexibility regarding working location, with a hybrid approach to support work–life balance, whilst recognising this is a market‑facing role requiring a regular office presence.
• Ability to be based within a commutable distance to London.
• A genuine customer‑first mindset, with customers at the heart of everything you do.
